In Iraq most taxicabs are antique and have distinctive white and orange liveries with the bottom and upper half painted white and the sides half painted orange. Outside Najaf Airport, most taxis are painted black and recognized by the yellow ‘TAXI’ sign on top of the vehicle. Private companies operating taxis can have their own liveries but need approval from the government. To hail a taxicab, you normally just flag or wait on the street or go to the taxi locations. No taxi is equipped with a meter or GPS Navigation System. Fares are usually calculated according to distance and waiting time. Some taxi-drivers practices regarding rates are against the law.
